Can Glowforge make silicone molds?

Several members of the Glowforge for Crafters group have asked about making silicone molds with their Glowforge. While I hadn't ever made silicone molds, I was up for the challenge and spent several days working it all out – so you don't have to.

Can you UV print on silicone?

Silicone is a unique substrate, and without getting into all the complicated chemistry behind it, UV curable ink and regular solvent-based inks will not adhere to silicone, so a specialty ink must be used. The only ink that can stick to silicone is a silicone-based ink.

What is a master mold?

The master mold is a plaster mold that is made from capturing the contours of a model so a-like product can be cast from it's negative space. Although you can cast from the master mold, we ideally want to preserve this mold so you can replace molds as they wear out.

Place chocolate in fridge for 20-30 min depending on the size of chocolate. Remove from the fridge and turn the mold upside down on a plate. If the silicone mold is quite large, start by gently removing the edges of the mold from the chocolate. Go around the entire edge and pull the mold away from the chocolate.
